I've heard multiple reports before of people being able to create projects larger than 50 MB and still have Scratch save it. It's been a long time since I completed the game in the dim and distant past! Ah well… I knew it was a slightly ambitious project to attempt in the first placeĬatsUnited wrote:There's no project size limit anymore. There might be such a point but I don't know without playing through the whole game on the PC. If it were 10MB of JSON and 40MB of assets then I'd be smiling I wonder what the reasoning is for the 5MB/45MB split… I'm not sure if it's going to be possible to break the game into separate projects as that would mean finding a point around the halfway mark where the player can no longer visit areas he's been to up to that point. I could possibly break the required data into what needs to be loaded straight away and other parts that could be parsed as and when needed which would improve the load time but I suspect the initial data parsing would still be intolerably long.

I could store it as image files and decode at run-time (as done in my data storage test project) but that would take 150+ images which would take minutes to parse on a reasonable PC and a lot longer on a Chromebook or similar. I do have around 1.8MB used up with data (stored in hexadecimal in variables) - I could compress that but not to release the required 1.5+MB.

That's over 1.5MB of my JSON gone without actually adding any code or data to it! I'm already pretty close to the 5MB limit on the JSON (a fair chunk of which has already gone on costume overheads). There's no problem in fitting that within the 50MB SB3 limit (though I don't know how it would fair on loading without crashing) - the problem is that there's an overhead of around 190 characters to the JSON for every image file added. It isn't like the developers working on ScummVM would ever need to see any of it.Well, I've hit a bit of a brick wall! There are around 9000 more costumes to add if I'm to fit the complete game into a single project. I don't tend to play Visual Novels in general. But seeing a swinging johnson or a flat textured muff is just TOO much for the USA! So blood gushing geisers when you chop someone in half and cannibal tribes is fine.

To get a no bottom game on the PS4, I had to buy the UK physical disk, then buy the UK versions of the DLC. ESRB in the USA will instantly flag it as AO and Sony and MS won't sell AO games, so they only allow partial nudity.

Why that gets an Adults Only tag and not a Mature tag, I do not know. But it isn't like they are even sexualized at all, just nudity. I have been playing Conan Exiles again lately and it is one that had controversy as you could play fully nude. I've discussed it with the devs on the Discord, and most of them are okay with upstreaming support for older SFW visual novels (Like Clannad or Kanon), but the NSFW ones (the porn/doujinshi games), and the relatively new-ish ones (like Persona), It was a no from the devs, infact one of them said that if a NSFW game was upstreamed they'd quit. Some people are so weird about their puritan values. My project targets visual novels, including NSFW ones. I guess you cannot bring them into upstream? And unlike last time, I have a lot more than 5 commits. Now i'm going to have to switch back to ScummVM. Quoting: monyarm Quoting: Eike Quoting: monyarmAnother worry I have, is how this is going to affect my fork (NovelVM), i originally began it based on ScummVM, then I switched to ResidualVM for the opengl support (and cause the game i'm working on has 3d). Nice to see ScummVM going from strength to strength, after recently putting out the 2.2.0 release which added support for multiple Ultima titles and a serious classic from the 70s. Together though, it means ScummVM will add support for titles like: Grim Fandango, Escape from Monkey Island, Myst III - Exile, The Longest Journey and an unfinished engine for In Cold Blood, as well as Wintermute 3D engine. They already shared a few developers so hopefully it will go smoothly. This means that ScummVM will be embracing both 2D and 3D games, including RPGs and point-and-click adventures under one roof. Not a bad time to announce the merger of the two projects. In a fresh announcement, the ScummVM team mentioned how it's now been going for 19 years as the first-ever public release of ScummVM was back in 2001.

While the ScummVM project was originally meant to cover 2D classics, ResidualVM was the companion project for 3D games and now they're going to combine into ScummVM.
